EXAM AND ASSESSMENT REGULATIONS
Information concerning exam and assessment regulations can be obtained from the Faculty of Life and Physical Sciences Handbook website: http://www.publishing.uwa.edu.au/handbooks/sciences/welcome.html
Assignments
Assessment varies from unit to unit. It is the student's responsibility to be aware of when the assessment/s is/are due/taking place.
All assignments must be handed in with a completed cover sheet (available by the front door of the Forensic Science building or on the website). Blue ones to be used by undergraduate students and Red ones by postgraduate students. It is the student's responsibility to hand in assignments by the due date, and with the cover sheet filled in correctly.
Assignments should be either handed in to the Administrator at the Centre, or dropped into the 'After Hours' box by the front door of the Centre, on/by the due date of the assignment. If a student is unable to hand an assignment in on time due to work commitments, it should by mailed to the Administrator to arrive on the due day or handed in the previous day.
Emailed assignments will only be accepted under special circumstances and by agreement with the Administrator.
Extentions
Extensions must be applied for in writing to the Administrator at least 1 working day prior to the due date with a reason for the extension, and the length of extension required. If an extension is required on medical grounds, it must be accompanied by a medical certificate. Responses to extension requests will be by email from the Administrator. Please do NOT request an extension from a subject lecturer as extensions will not be granted from this source.
Submissions of Late Assignments
If an assignment is submitted late, and no extension has been requested or granted, a penalty of 5% for each late day (including weekends and public holidays) will be deducted. After 5 days, (25%) late assignments WILL NOT BE MARKED. (Where extenuating circumstances apply, such situations will be decided by the Director on a case-by-case basis).
Please note that the Postgraduate Psychology Special unit has its own regulations concerning submission of late assignments and these will be discussed with students at the beginning of the course.
Appeals
Students wishing to make an appeal regarding results should make an appointment with the subject lecturer in the first instance. Students still not satisfied with the outcome may then contact the Director. If you are still not satisfied and wish to appeal the mark further, you should follow the Appeals Process. The full policy can be accessed at: http://www.secretariat.uwa.edu.au/page/20777
A student must lodge a formal appeal in accordance with the procedure no later than 12 University working days from the release of the formal result.
Feedback
Students requesting feedback on any assignment should contact the lecturer who marked the assignment. Comments on assignments are at the lecturer's discretion.
Missing an Exam
If a student cannot attend an exam, or an exam is missed, students must inform the Administrator as soon as possible. The reason for missing the exam must be explained in writing and supported by a medical certificate or other appropriate documentation. The decision to whether to grant a deferred exam will be made on the merit of the request and arbitrated by the Director in conjunction with the subject lecturer.
Supplementary Examination (Regulation 5.6.7)
The Faculty may permit a student who attains a final mark of 40-45% inclusive in any unit to sit a supplementary exam in that unit. Students will be advised by the Faculty after the Faculty Examiners Board has sat and agreed to the supplementary Exam being given. The result of a supplementary examination will be recorded as either an ungraded pass (UP) or an ungraded fail (UF).
