General Matters

General Matters

1. Needlestick Injuries

All students must be aware of needle stick injuries or contact with other body fluids.  In such cases students are required to contact the emergency department of their local hospital.  The closest hospital to UWA is the QEII Medical Centre at Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital (Tel: 9346 3333).

2. Statement to Students on Confidentiality

Due to the nature of the Forensic Science programme, students are obliged not to disclose any confidential or sensitive information or details they may encounter during the course. Students involved in any case work will be required to complete a confidentiality agreement.

3. Timetable

Students will be provided with a draft timetable at least 1 month prior to the commencement of the semester.  Please note that the timetable is subject to change and students will be notified of these changes by email, which may be at short notice.

4. Academic Year

The University of Western Australia's academic year works on a calender year. New students receive a "Letter of Offer" from the Faculty of Life and Physical Sciences in early January.  Continuing students re-enrol in December and are required to specify all the units they intend to take in the following year. Students enrolling mid year will only be required to specify units for Second Semester, thereafter, students must specify all units for a calender year.

5. Lecture/Workshop Schedules

In order to accommodate students who are in the workforce,  the majority of lectures and workshops are scheduled from Monday to Friday between 5:30 to 8:30pm.  Occasional lectures, practicals and workshops are scheduled for weekends and public holidays.

6.Clothing

Appropriate clothing and footwear (no sandals or open shoes) is recommended for field trips and laboratory workshops.  A professional dress code is a requirement for the mock court (no tank-tops, singlets or shorts).
